We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning original victorian antique jaques of london faux leather folding book chessboard with the original staunton chess set dating to circa 1880, a travel chess set in the form of checkers pieces and lastly a jacques of london rosewood chess clock a truly stunning and highly collectable suite, they look fantastic in any setting and play very nicely. What you have is as follows 1:- the original, super super super rare, leather bound book which is a full sized chessboard on the outside and backgammon board on the inside, it also offers storage for all the pieces 2:- one full set of signed jaques of london victorian staunton chess pieces, the kinds or queens i forget which are stamped 3:- one full set of jaques of london travel chess pieces, they are backgammon pieces on one side and when you flip them over, the chess pieces are carved into each piece 4:- the original victorian rosewood chess clock, with the period plaque to the rear which reads " j jaques & son ltd sports & games makers - london" for a collector, this is an absolute dream set, everything is 100% original and unrestored, it has pride of place in a display at my home and i would be happy to keep it forever the condition is fantastic for the age, the book has lots of patination, the clock has sat unused for decades so will need a service, one side works perfectly the other seems to need winding up a bit more as it quickly loses speed, perhaps i'm not using it correctly! board dimensions height:- 45cm closed standing, 4.5cm open width:- 9cm closed, 51cm open depth:- 26cm closed, 45cm open chess square size:- 5cm king dimensions height:- 9cm width:- 4cm depth:- 4cm pawn dimensions height:- 5cm width:- 2.5cm depth:- 2.5cm backgammon pieces height:- 1cm width:- 3.5cm depth:- 3.5cm clock height:- 16.5cm width:- 23.5cm depth:- 7cm please note all measurements are taken at the widest point. Condition please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade. official proof of authenticity,
