Crafted from elmwood or cypress with a rich, dark oxblood lacquer, this late 19th to early 20th-century pair embodies refined simplicity and timeless balance.

The solid top rail flows seamlessly into the sculpted yoke, extending into upswept ends supported by graceful corner posts that continue through to the back legs. A thick, S-shaped back splat—carved with the Chinese symbol for longevity—adds both visual depth and structural strength. The hard-mat seat rests on semi-rounded front legs joined by a continuous, sculpted apron with lateral and back stretchers for stability, plus an integrated footrest for comfort.

These well-preserved examples show light, age-appropriate wear with minor surface marks that enhance their beautiful patina.
