Mata Ortiz is a village in Chihuahua, Mexico renowned for pottery is a distinctive style of handmade ceramics, which is a revival of ancient Casas Grandes (Paquimé) pottery techniques. The art form was revitalized by Juan Quezada in the 1970s, who taught himself to create the pottery based on ancient fragments he found. The process involves using natural materials, hand-building with coils, and firing the pots in a traditional pit kiln, resulting in unique, intricately decorated pieces that are sought after by collectors worldwide.

The bud vase measures approximately 5" in width / depth, and is 4.625" tall. It does not have a flat round base and the black mud is most likely porous and not intended to sustain water. See less
