Chinese soapstone carving has been a traditional art form for centuries, with soapstone prized for its soft, workable nature and beautiful color variations ranging from pale green to gray and brown, This type of decorative vase or brush pot became particularly popular during the late Qing Dynasty and continued through the mid 20th century, often featuring naturalistic floral and botanical motifs that symbolized prosperity and good fortune in Chinese culture.
This soapstone brush pot is made from a tri-color stone, tan with a beige streak and the base brown/black. The vase is placed above the tree branch with flowering blossoms. It is a very artistic presentation and one of the prettiest soapstone carving that I am able to acquire.
