An expressive color lithograph on paper titled "Jerusalem Cafe" by Chaim Gross. Hand signed in pencil on the lower right with an AP annotation on the lower left. The composition depicts an animated street scene with open cafe doors revealing patrons in conversation, framed by vibrant architectural details in rich reds and blues. Chaim Gross (1904-1991) was an internationally acclaimed sculptor and printmaker celebrated for his dynamic depictions of the human figure. A leading figure in the American figurative art movement, Gross's work is represented in major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Smithsonian American Art Museum, and the Museum of Modern Art. He exhibited widely in prestigious institutions such as the Corcoran Gallery of Art and the Jewish Museum, earning critical acclaim for both his sculpture and works on paper. Gross was the recipient of numerous honors, including the National Institute of Arts and Letters Award and multiple public art commissions. His enduring legacy is preserved through the Renee & Chaim Gross Foundation in New York City, dedicated to celebrating his life's work and contribution to American art.
