A pair of Sèvres-style porcelain vases from 19th Century.
Theses vases feature a deep cobalt blue ground with extensive raised gilt decoration and hand-painted figural scenes. They have an urn shape with scrolled handles and a pedestal base. The body is a rich cobalt blue, a color known in Sèvres porcelain as bleu de roi. Each vase has a central oval reserve with a hand-painted scene. The scene on the left depicts two women in a garden, and the one on the right shows a courting couple. These types of romantic or pastoral scenes were very popular in French art during the Rococo and later revival periods. The raised gold decoration and elaborate scrolling patterns are characteristic of the Sèvres porcelain style.
