A magnificent pair of monumental Asian lacquer floor vases with their original matching stands, executed in the traditional najeonchilgi (mother-of-pearl inlay on lacquer) technique.
Each vase features a masterful composition of dragons and phoenixes — symbols of balance, harmony, and prosperity — soaring above temple landscapes, lotus ponds, and multiple pagodas. Every element is hand-cut from mother-of-pearl and abalone shell, resulting in an iridescent, full-coverage surface rarely found outside ceremonial or collector-grade lacquer works.
Encircling each vessel, a checkered nacre mosaic trim showcases perfect geometric alignment around the curved body — a hallmark of advanced mid-century craftsmanship. The deep oxblood and black lacquer finish was achieved through dozens of hand-applied layers, polished to a mirror sheen.
The vases rest upon solid lacquered wood stands adorned with complementary shell inlay and lined in embossed red velvet. The gently concave tops cradle the vases securely, creating a dramatic vertical statement nearly 40 inches in total height.
Likely crafted in Korea or Vietnam during the 1960s–1970s, this pair reflects the legacy of najeonchilgi and sơn mài artistry — techniques practiced for centuries and still preserved in national museums.
