Born in Venice in 1936, Elio Raffaeli lived and studied on the Island of Murano, the glassblowing capital of Venice. At 15, he began his apprenticeship in the Seguso-Dalla Venezia glass factory. He later moved on to Salviati where he learned techniques ranging from blown to sculptures to solid glass and later had a fruitful collaboration with the designer Flavio Poli. Next Raffaeli went to work with Livio Seguso, one of the great 20th century sculptors, where he forged a working relationship and friendship with the young Roberto Cammozzo. See less
