A stunning Portuguese commode / chest of drawers by Michael Taylor in an antique fruitwood finish. While unmarked, this is their "Portuguese Commode" model PAN-1320 1321 that is still being offered today exclusively to the interior designer trade community, and it perfectly embodies the designer's celebrated "California Look"—a fusion of monumental scale, classical forms, and relaxed elegance.
While inspired by an 18th-century Continental serpentine and bombe chests of Portugal or France's Louis XV period, Taylor's version elevates the form with modern refinement and scale, making it a timeless statement piece.
Crafted with a deeply curved, three-drawer serpentine front, it offers a really dramatic visual flow. The rich, warm patina of the Antique Fruitwood finish is really striking. Adorned with beautiful and period-appropriate hardware, featuring elaborate quatrefoil brass escutcheons and elegant tear-drop bail pulls.
