With extended research, I was not able to locate the exact maker of this fabulous satin glass powder jar, but it was a time when these were made as carnival and fair prizes in the 1930s. It is also assumed that these were made en masse, for a short period of time. They came in three colors, green, pink and black. It is thought that they were filled with some type of powder or soaps, that beaus would win for the sweethearts at the fair. For something that was a Midway prize, we are extremely lucky to find this piece in excellent condition. The decoration on the piece is Classic Art Deco, but there are small nuances of the previous Art Nouveau period. The finial of the lid is a woman's head, depicted on both sides. Her hairstyle is that of the 1930s. Short with tight curls at the nape of the neck. As with the style du jour, there is a ribbed headband with a floral accent. Her face display is sharp, also as dictated in Art Deco constructs. The lid top has a lace doily design to it. The top decor on the "cup" section of this piece some lovely architectural displays, as well has some botanical accents. The stem of the piece is one large cameo that is the same as the finials, but with more design included. There are two flourishes on each side of the cameo. The base itself is also sporting stylistics of Art Deco. Just an absolutely beautiful piece. This piece is 8.5" tall with lid on. The width of the oval box is 5.25" wide x 3.50" deep. There are three of the tiniest flea bites on the inside of the lid and one on inside of cup lip. There is also a little streak of maybe pen on cup outside. Please see pictures.
