An unusual set of antique Japanese Satsuma ware teacup and saucer vividly painted a group of Arhats (Luohan, Buddhist disciples) … Read more An unusual set of antique Japanese Satsuma ware teacup and saucer vividly painted a group of Arhats (Luohan, Buddhist disciples) together with dragon motifs, rich gold and other enamels on off-white glaze, unpainted area covered with a fine network of crackle glaze, a handwritten Hangushin (Hengxin, 恒信) mark on each piece, the cup also bearing a Shimazu clan mark (a circle with a cross inside). Both pieces are in excellent condition with minor surface wear commensurate with age and use. Meiji period (1868-1912). Come with a uniquely designed wooden stand for display.
