The image is of Times Square, photographed in 1952. Simply encased in a black metal frame. Signed with a personal note in lower right corner.

Born in the Bronx in 1934, Larry Silver began photographing while attending the High School of Industrial Art in Manhattan. While still a student, he met numerous members of the Photo League including W. Eugene Smith, Weegee, and Lou Bernstein. He won the first prize in the Scholastic-Ansco Photography Awards during his senior year and was offered a full scholarship to the Art Center School in Los Angeles. While in California, he photographed extensively at Santa Monica Beach. (The resulting series, “Muscle Beach” was exhibited at the International Center of Photography in 1985.) Silver returned to New York City in 1959 and opened an advertising studio the following year. Silver relocated to Westport. Connecticut, in 1973 and began photographing his suburb and its inhabitants.

His work is held by numerous institutions including the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Brooklyn Museum of Art; the George Eastman House; the Jewish Museum; Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Metropolitan Museum of Art; Museum of the City of New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
