A rare and substantial pair of German Empire tub chairs with early platform rocker bases, dating to the transitional Empire/Biedermeier period (c. 1830–1850). Crafted of solid beechwood with deep green velvet upholstery, these chairs feature acanthus leaf carving that flows into bold lion paw feet. Heavy, architectural, and elegant, they embody the refinement of Continental Empire design and are ready to bring their presence into your home.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE:
Matched pairs of German Empire tub chairs are rare; with platform rocker bases, they are nearly unheard of. While American examples of platform rockers became popular in the Victorian era, these Continental chairs illustrate the innovation and evolution of European seating. Their survival as a pair enhances both rarity and desirability.
