Stunning antique Victorian balloon-back side chair. This style of chair is characterized by its rounded back and nipped-in waist, which became popular during the 1830s and remained so through the end of the Victorian era. The chair also features a needlepoint seat, a common upholstery for this type of furniture during that period.
Charlotte Chair Company made furniture in a similar style, with some examples being mahogany chairs with carved details and needlepoint seats. The Charlotte Chair Company was started in 1912 and became the sole property of E.J. Elles after 1920.
