Judith Leiber Snuff BoxGem Box: Vintage

Among Leiber's royal muses was Frederick the Great. In the 80s, she came across the Prussian Emperor's collection of "heavily jeweled boxes" called “Potsdam boxes” in a book of metal bags. The design of these boxes have been attributed to the English-born artist Guillaume George Krüger, who was active in Berlin between 1753 and 1774. The resulting pint-size treasure chest is this Minaudiere packed serious bling and arguably a whiff of irony (last 2 photos).
This evening confection by Leiber is a jewel and unashamedly extravagant, embedded with thousands of individually hand-set rhinestones and highlighted by hand polished Cabochon gems. A wide creeper border of large gem cabochons and smaller gems made up of amethyst, green jade, pink rose quartz, tiger eye, carnelian, and gernets.
First designed and made in 1979, this vintage minaudière from 1984 by Judith Leiber is an attention getter.
