Measuring 57 inches tall, this large French hanging lantern features a hexagonal form adorned with a series of scrolls, volutes, and acanthus leaves. The lantern, which dates to the 1900s, is comprised of wrought iron, with the delicate leaves made of tole that give the light source a palette of gray, brown, and orange due to minor oxidation.
A leaf cup canopy tops the lantern, above showy banded C-scrolls with volute terminals. Large, curled leaves enveloping more scrolls extend downwards from the apex, flanking a ring of partial leaf tips that form the crown. At each vertex of the hexagonal main body is a twisted embellishment that joins scrolls positioned at the top and base of the main body. Two bars form an “X” that is accompanied by another C-scroll, and a rosette on the front of each panel of the main body. A drop-down socket is positioned behind the lattices, allowing for proper illumination of a covered patio, entry hall, or grand foyer.
