A sought after collector's item known here in Spain as a "cuenco o lebrillo de cerámica antigua" (bowl or basin of antique pottery). The bowl features the typical blue white ground tones and has a beautiful rich deep patina.
Fajalauza ceramics are known for their rich history and distinctive style, often featuring floral motifs and stylized patterns, as seen in this example. The lebrillos are hand-painted with floral decorations so no two are the dame, which is characteristic of traditional ceramic artistry of the Mediterranean. The bowl shows signs of age, wear, around the edges, hairline cracks and a general crackling in the glaze consistent with its age. See less
