This is an exquisite piece of vintage Majolica. Formed in the shape of a Clamshell which sits upon a floral base. The decorative bowl has two heart shaped cut out handles.
Beautiful patina. Stamped. Made in Japan.
Majolica is a type of tin-glazed earthenware, famous for its vibrant, painted decorations over an opaque white glaze, often on red-ware clay. Originating from Middle Eastern techniques, it was refined in Italy during the Renaissance and became popular in 19th-century Britain and the US for its colorful, often molded, designs.
