Guanyin or Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is the Bodhisattva of Infinite Compassion, the embodiment of Mercy in Mahayana Buddhism. Guanyin is the one who hears the cries of all beings and offers aid to those in suffering. The thousand arms symbolize her boundless compassion and ability to reach out to hep countless sentients beings at the same time. Each hand has an eye in its palm, representing the union of wisdom (the eye) and compassionate action (the hand.) This Guanyin jas eleven heads, they represent her ability to see and understand all forms of suffering.

The legend of the 1000 Arms Guanyin relates that Guanyin vowed to save all sentient beings but became overwhelmed by their suffering. Her body shattered from despair and the Lord Budddha Amitabhna helped her manifest this new form with a thousand arms and many heads to aid and continue her compassionate work.

The statue here is carved out of sandalwood by an artist in Taiwan. The work is done in parts and joined together. The Guanyin sits on a lotus seat above a throne. She held a trident and another weapon in two hands. It is time consuming work, and his works are limited. The statue sits inside a plexiglass case for protection.
