A sought after collector's item known here in Spain as … Read more Antique wooden Shepards bowl from northern Spain, dating from c1800. A sought after collector's item known here in Spain as a "Dorillo" These bowls are typically dug out from a solid piece of Holm oak which has a burr in it, thus making the bowl extremely heavy and durable (this example weighing almost 2.5kg). These bowls were considered prized possessions and handed down from generation to generation, used for many jobs around the house such as milking, butter making, dough making to metion but a few. It retains a beautiful rich deep patina. Has a wonderful naive geometric carved decoration just below the rim. There are also some old iron stable repairs in the splits. The bowl shows signs of age, wear, splits, cracks around the edges consistent with its age. Watertight. See less
