Enchanting moulded earthenware conjoined kitty cat statuette, adorned with a whimsical under-glaze hand painted Japanese floral and foliate motif. The foliate appears to be Japanese Painted Black Lady Ferns or perhaps Oriental Lady Ferns, while the floral motif is “Shobu”, the Japanese name for Iris. Main color of the statuette is a highly glazed off white hue; foliates are garden green and greige with brown stems; flowers are pale yellow with beige undertones. These cuties measure 9½” x 9” x 10¼” H/W/D; weight 5 lbs. 4 oz. Photos were taken in the round to show the varying shades and nuances of the statuette. In excellent condition with age-appropriate crazing that adds charm and character, as seen in the photos. Maker is unknown.

I acquired this cutie from the estate of an elderly lady who traveled to Japan in the 1950s with her husband. When they returned to the United States the statuette came home with her. For a lover of all things feline, this unique and out of the ordinary cutie will put a smile on your face!
