Rosewood was one of the most prized exotic woods of the Victorian era, imported at great expense from Brazil and India. Its deep, variegated figuring made it especially desirable for fine parlor furniture. Barley twist legs, a revival of 17th-century designs, enjoyed a resurgence during Queen Victoria’s reign as symbols of craftsmanship and ornamental flourish.
