18th Century Baroque Carved Giltwood Putti Figure on Stand. The figure is depicted in a dynamic pose, with one hand raised heavenward and the other lightly grasping drapery at the waist. Carved with lively movement and a naturalistic sense of form, the putti embodies the theatricality and grace of Baroque art. Remnants of the original gilding and polychrome remain, giving warmth and texture to the surface. Putti, or cherubic child figures, were a hallmark of Baroque art and religious decoration of the 17th and 18th century. They symbolized divine presence, innocence, and heavenly joy.
In today’s interiors the putti would make a stunning decorative piece in any room, as an addition to a bookcase or shelving unit, on a console table, or in a child’s room.
