These French, neoclassical-style boxes … Read more Pair of antique 19th century, Italian red marble octagonal Inkwells or Decorative Boxes with bronze mounts. These French, neoclassical-style boxes with hinged lids and pontiled edge mounts have bottoms covered with blue and yellow woven damask with central laurel wreaths inset in the bottom bronze mounts. The exterior marble sides and both the exterior and interior of the tops are polished while the interiors are honed and still show some striations related to the tools used in cutting the stone. The interior bottoms are covered with brass disks. Each of these boxes measures 2 3/4" high (with lid closed) and 3 1/4" in diameter and weigh a hefty, 1 lb and 9 oz each. The interiors measure 2 1/4" in diameter and 1 7/8" high. A handsome pair of decorative boxes perfect for styling a mantel, a writing desk, a library bookshelf or flanking a centerpiece on a dining table. See less
