In 1886, the Osaka-based antique dealer Yamanaka Kichirobei edited and published a three-volume series of woodblock print albums called “Plum Trees of Osaka: Patterns and Designs (Moyo Hinagata Naniwa no Ume)” featuring colorful kimono designs by various artists such as Nakajima Makoto (Tanjiro). The intricate textile motifs explore an array of subjects, from flora and fauna to architecture and household objects. This series is held in the collection of de Young / Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco and Victoria & Albert Museum.
This print depicts a design of white ivy growing on a tree surrounded by a water pattern. The colored objects are possibly bat-shaped hoods lined with a kyo-kanoko textile pattern. Great woodblock impression with woodgrain present in beige area.
Sold matted in a off-white conservation grade bookmat and adhered with acid-free tape. The mat fits a standard 12” x 10” frame size and we recommend framing with UV-filter Plexiglas.
