A charming matched pair of Chinese famille rose porcelain vases, dating to the late Qing or early Republic period (circa 1890–1920). Each vase features hand-painted floral cartouches with lush blooming peonies against a turquoise ground filled with slightly raised white scrollwork and yellow flourishes. Delicately molded and applied animal-form handles and a colorful lappet border add texture and visual interest. Sold as a pair with carved wood display stands, the pastel palette, graceful proportions, and fine detail on these vases, makes for ideal decorative accents for your home. Vases on stands measure 10.5" high, without stands 9.5" high.
COLLECTOR'S NOTE:
In Chinese art, peonies symbolize wealth, honor, and feminine beauty. The famille rose technique (fencai) flourished in the 18th–early 20th centuries, admired for its soft colors and elaborate decoration.
