History
Invented by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, jasperware became the house’s signature material—an unglazed, colored stoneware used for classical cameos and ornaments. The pale blue body with white reliefs (often called “Wedgwood blue”) epitomized the Georgian and later Neoclassical taste and has been produced—continuously and in many forms—from the 18th century through the mid- to late-20th century.
