Half-Doll Orientalist Half-Figurine by Salammbô in Thuringian Porcelain, Early 20th Century
A toy, an accessory? This half-figurine is much more than that! Coming from the fragile and sophisticated world of German Thuringian porcelain in the early 20th century, this half-figurine, also known as a "Half-Doll," is a true collector's item!
Rare due to its orientalist shape and posture reminiscent of Art Deco, it was created in the early 20th century, probably during the Art Deco period (1910-1930). This porcelain doll bust was not intended for children's play, but for decorating wooden boxes, sewing textiles as box ornaments, or for displaying in a display case. The small holes located on the base of the figurine allow it to be sewn to the box lids.
Fine and delicate, the details of this "Lady Figurine" are incredibly realistic. But what makes it so beautiful is its rarity. Its Orientalist theme, with its Punic-Egyptian attire, evokes the romanticism of antiquity and the Orient of this period, and in particular the figure of Gustave Flaubert's work, Salammbô, from the novel of the same name. A woman of power, or a victim of the society of her time, the figure of Salammbô is that of a woman from the Carthaginian era, a priestess of the goddess Tanit seeking to recover her goddess's veil stolen by mercenaries, in order to restore order to the city, even if it meant sacrificing her own life. Ambivalent and tragic, she is a respectable character who chose her convictions for the good of all.
Lovers of Half-Dolls and delicate German porcelain with a story, don't wait any longer! Adopt her now.
