My father was a jeweler and brought this clock back from one of his European business trips. I believe it appeared in my home in the 1970's.
This is a beautiful and rather rare mid-century decorative table or mantel clock by Hour Lavigne, a French clockmaker known for their artistic and high-end timepieces.
About the Clock:
Maker: Hour Lavigne (often stamped or signed as “Lavigne” on the dial)
Origin: France, mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1970s)
Design:
The design reflects Mid-Century Modern meets Hollywood Regency with a strong decorative flair.
Features glass panels on all sides, showcasing the clock as a display piece.
The floral motifs surrounding the dial are crafted with enamel inlays in vibrant turquoise and red tones, possibly representing tulips or stylized peacocks—common in folk or Art Deco stylization.
The ring around the dial is heavily bejeweled with red cabochon stones and metal beading, adding a jewel-box opulence to the overall piece.
Roman numerals on the dial, with black hands.
Hour Lavigne clocks are sought after for their quality and distinctively artistic designs. This one in particular is quite unique due to:
Its ornate decorative face
The glass box casing
Its resemblance to Studio Craft, Emaillé (enamelware) or even Viennese Secessionist aesthetics
Width: 10 2/16"
Height: 11"
Depth: 3 6/16"
Weight: 12 lbs
Chairish sells clocks only with display as the intended use. The mechanical elements are not guaranteed to be in working order by Chairish.
