Well elaborate piece with a Garuda or similar mask and a long handle, shaped as a snake head
We believe it to be a rice sheaf paddle / beater aka (panaptapan)
Although being a masterly crafted Folk art piece, the paddle had a utilitarian purpose. Village farmers would use the "panaptapan" to pound the ends of the rice stalks to even them up and make a uniform sheaf. The bundled rice stalks were then stored in the village barn.
Circa second half of the 19th century, Bali. It comes with a small, but sophisticated Indonesian artifacts collection from Netherlands
Frankly, it is much more beautiful in person, photos do not do its justice!
Measurements: Approximately 13.75" long x 6" x 3" overall
