The interior lip is banded with nine alternating sets of right hand wanzi symbols, peaches and Fu Bats bracketed by double blue ringlets. A Sifu medallion between double blue circles is glazed to the interior bottom. A blue, six character, Qianlong reign mark within double ringlets is glazed to the inset base. The traditional, finely carved, hongmu circular stand is included. Circa Republic of China era, no later than mid century.
Sifu medallion: four blessings: happiness, prosperity, longevity and good luck, symbolized by four Fu Bats.
wanzi: The swastika is an auspicious symbol in China where it was introduced from India with Buddhism. In 693, during the Tang dynasty, it was declared as "the source of all good fortune" and was called wan by Wu Zetian becoming a Chinese word. The Chinese character for wan (pinyin: wàn) is similar to a swastika in shape and has two different variations:《卐》and 《卍》. As the Chinese character wan (卐 or 卍) is homonym for the Chinese word of "ten thousand" (万) and "infinity", as such the Chinese character is itself a symbol of immortalityand infinity and of longevity. The Chinese character wan could be used as a stand-alone《卐》or《卍》or as be used as pairs《卐 卍》in Chinese visual arts, decorative arts, and clothing due to its auspicious connotation. Adding the character wan (卐 or 卍) to other auspicious Chinese symbols or patterns can multiply that wish by 10,000 times. It can be combined with other Chinese characters, such as the Chinese character shou《壽》for longevity where it is sometimes even integrated into the Chinese character shou to augment the meaning of longevity.
The character wan can also be stylized in the form of the xiangyun, Chinese auspicious clouds.
