Absolutely stunning set of 4 Émile Gallé nesting tables with intricate marquetry depicting a natural landscape and descending scenes of plants. On the top table face in the bottom right corner, Gallé has inlaid his signature inside of a striped maple leaf. The wood grain on the face of the top table has a unique pattern in the foreground that resembles a small lake.
Émile Gallé, a French visual artist, is best known for his work with glass. He is considered a heavy driving force behind the the Art Nouveau movement, and many of his pieces are museum level quality and are selling for thousands of dollars, art-glass and furniture.
These tables are stunning, but time has unfortunately not been kind. The nails connecting the legs to the second smallest table are loose and cannot handle any vertical pull. The bottom connecting joints of the legs, some splits in the wood and where the legs meet under the face of the table are repaired with expanding foam. However, the appearance of the table tops are in excellent condition and could easily be refurbished into decorative wall art!
