A mid-century desert oil landscape of Western Nevada by Phoebe K. Higgins (American, 1895 - c 1960), circa 1950. The composition showcases a broad, arid vista with rolling hills and distant mountains under a soft, pastel sky — a classic representation of the Great Basin or Mojave Desert areas typical of western Nevada. The painting's naturalistic color palette and attention to geological forms is a wonderful example of the realism influenced by the traditions of American Western art from the early to mid-20th century.
