Likely dating to the late Qing Dynasty or early Republic period (circa 1900–1930), this petite porcelain rest was used on the scholar’s desk to cradle ink brushes when not in use. Its stylized wave or ruyi-shaped form evokes auspicious symbolism, often associated with prosperity and scholarly success. The piece stands on an unglazed foot. The underside shows age-appropriate wear and old kiln marks consistent with period Chinese porcelain production.
