This English grandfather clock from around 1810 is highly decorative and useful. It accurately displays the time, and its soothing ticking creates a cozy atmosphere. The striking mechanism only strikes the hour and can be easily deactivated. The hand-painted dial features a cutout revealing the date disc, which is advanced once a day by the mechanical movement. The location of the clockmaker on the dial is no longer visible. Such clocks are well-known in England. The hand-crafted movement has an anchor escapement with a rack-and-pinion strike mechanism, running on a weekly basis. The original winding key is included with the clock.
The long-time owners, a well-off Berlin couple, have had the clock serviced regularly every seven years. This has now paid off; the movement is in good condition and works. The weights are suspended from steel cable. The pendulum and weights are original and therefore 200 years old.
Solid oak, inlaid with mahogany and walnut, steel and brass movement, bronze bell
