A striking antique Japanese Kutani charger, dating to the Meiji period (circa 1880–1900), featuring a finely painted scene in iron red, black, and grey enamels. The central vignette depicts a joyous group of boys in festive dress. The hand-painted decoration displays the meticulous detail and expressive charm typical of Kutani ware from this era. The other vignettes and feature birds, blossoming flowers, and auspicious motifs.
The charger is bordered with stylized clouds and geometric cartouches, all set against a rich iron red ground with floral sprays. Crafted with a shallow form and gently sloped rim, the back is unmarked and shows age-appropriate wear and fine glaze crackling.
