This Really is an Great Looking Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Butter Crock. Circa Mid 19th Century. It is Embossed with a Number 1 ( Gallon ) Confirming its Storage Capacity. It has No Maker mark but in My Considered Opinion It was Made in the Philadelphia - Most Likely bu Henry Remmey. It is Rendered in a Low - Squat Form Sometimes Referred to Because of their Shape as "Cake Crocks". Note that These are Much Harder to Find These Days than the Jugs & Jars. It has a Classic American Salt Glaze Exterior with a Unusual Lighter Carmel Color Interior. It Has Classic Pennsylvania Style Hand Decorated Blue Features Around All Sides. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use.
It is in Very Good Overall Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. Imperfections Noted - Large Chip at the Bottom & Lower Perimeter. Few Small Chips at the Top Rim Inner & Outer Perimeter. Very Faint - Tight Hairline Crack Extending a Few Inches Down from Top Rim. It has Some Color & Texture Variations to the Exterior Salt Glaze All of Which Would Have Occurred in the Making - Kiln Firing Process. Stoneware Pieces Like Thiese were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and These Types of Kiln Flaws are Quite Common. It is in Strong - Sound and Perfectly Usable if so Desired.
It Measures Overall Approx
5 inches Tall.
10 1/2 Inches Long ( Side Handles Included ).
9 1/2 inches Wide.
