Graceful and evocative, this 20th-century bronze sculpture titled “Nymph of the Woods” is modeled after the celebrated work by Italian sculptor Carlo Pittaluga, whose marble version resides in the National Gallery. This elegant cast depicts a barefoot young woman in flowing drapery, serenely holding a floral garland. Her downward gaze and delicate posture convey a quiet sense of introspection and harmony with nature.
While unsigned, the casting quality is excellent—far superior to the more commonly seen later reproductions. The piece has a warm, light brown patina and is very heavy, weighing approximately 34 pounds.
