This poster was designed and printed by David Lance Goines as an advertising piece for the well-known Berkeley art dealer Dow and Frosini. The composition depicts a woman standing before a white camellia bush. The camellias cascade out of the background and over her in a living garment that creates a sense of vitality, as if the woman is clothed in the very fabric of nature..
The artist has used flat planes of color and simple lines to create the image, but has still managed to create an amazing sense of detail and contour, especially apparent in her face and in the twisting forms and dimension of the leaves, giving the feel extreme realism. An impression aided by the fact that this is a portrait of an actual model. The composition is very two dimensional, defined by outlines and solid planes.
The poster is done in 13 color photo-offset lithography and was printed in an edition of 4305.
Marks: The poster has the artist mark: David Lance Goines 1979. The text reads: Dow & Frosini Framing 2284 Fulton Berkeley 94704 841-4402.
