Crafted in France circa 1870, each chair features a slender ebonized wood frame embellished with delicate gilt chinoiserie motifs and mother-of-pearl inlay.

The gracefully curved backrests feature scalloped upper rails decorated with hand-painted gilt scenes depicting traditional Asian pavilions, figures, trees, and foliage. Six finely turned spindles, accented with gilded scrollwork, connect the upper rail to a shaped lower support, creating an open and delicate silhouette. The contrasting gold decoration stands out against the rich black lacquered finish, reflecting the fascination with Far Eastern design during the Napoleon III period.

Each chair features a shaped seat fitted with natural woven cane, complemented by a removable salmon-colored, button-tufted cushion with fabric ties. The slender, slightly curved legs are connected by turned front stretchers and double side rails, providing structural support while maintaining the light proportions of the design.

The antique chairs are in good condition commensurate with age and use, retaining their original decorative character with expected wear to the black lacquer, gilding, and some losses to the mother-of-pearl inlay.
