While "Serapi" has no direct tribal or geographic origin in Iran, it has long been used in the rug trade especially in America and the UK to describe high-quality Heriz-style carpets woven in the northwest Persian region during the 19th and early 20th centuries. These rugs stood out for their open field designs, strong medallions, and the craftsmanship that came from small workshops and master weavers, not mass production.

This particular rug was handwoven in Pakistan by Afghan artisans using vegetable-dyed wool and a cotton foundation, continuing the legacy of tribal craftsmanship. Its low wool pile and sharp patterning echo the earlier Persian workshop styles, adapted for today’s interiors.
