This exceptional Chinese Art Deco piece captures the transitionary aesthetic of the 1920s, moving away from strict traditionalism toward bold, modern coloration. The central field is dominated by a sophisticated, dusty purple, anchoring the piece within the spectrum of purple rugs.

Crafted from luxurious, hand-knotted wool, the rug features a striking contrast between the muted field and the vibrant, wide maroon border. A subtle inner band of chartreuse green frames the composition, highlighting the Art Deco preference for unexpected color pairings. The generous dimensions classify this as a true room size rug, ideal for defining a grand living space or formal dining area.

The design eschews the heavy symbolism of earlier Chinese works, instead presenting a delicate, open composition. Scattered across the field and densely packed within the border are naturalistic depictions of blossoms, vines, and birds. This emphasis on organic life places it within the tradition of floral rugs, though executed with the stylized simplicity characteristic of the period.

Originating from China during a period of significant artistic exchange, this Art Deco textile represents a highly sought-after category of decorative art. Its excellent condition and historical significance make it a superb addition to any collection of fine antique rugs. This piece offers both unparalleled visual impact and enduring intrinsic value.
