Gorgeous & hard to find! Josiah Wedgwood Pearlware Hand Enameled Cabbage Leaf Plate, Dated 1860
Origins of Josiah Wedgwood's "Pearlware,”
this specific type of plate is part of Wedgwood's "Leafage series" and was briefly made in full color during the late 1800s, featuring a large cabbage leaf on a basket weave rim.
Pearlware, introduced by Josiah Wedgwood in 1779, is an earthenware ceramic with a slightly bluish-white lead glaze.
These hand-enameled cabbage leaf plates are considered scarce, as the mold is more commonly found in solid green or all white versions.
