About the artist: Colette Beleys, born on December 20, 1911, in Paris and died on January 23, 1998, in Ennery (Val-d'Oise), was a French painter. In 1954, she began a long series of travels to Spain, marking a turning point in her artistic career. She permanently abandoned her primitive and poetic style, aspiring instead to follow in the footsteps of the classical masters she admired at the Prado Museum in Madrid: Goya, Velázquez, and Zurbarán.
