Alex Katz ( B. 1927 ) is an American Modernist artist of a Jewish background born in Brooklyn New York. Katz is one of the most recognized and widely exhibited artists of his generation. Often associated with The Pop Art Movement, he began exhibiting his work in 1954, and since that time has produced a celebrated body of work with expressive power that includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and prints.
His earliest work took inspiration from various aspects of Mid-Century American culture and society, and over the past five decades he has established himself as a preeminent painter of Modern Life. The distinctive poetic portraits and lyrical landscapes bear a flattened surface and economy of line. He uses characteristically wide brushstrokes, large swathes of color, and refined compositions creating a new and distinctive type of Realism in American Art that evokes a cool but seductive emotional response.
Since the 1950's Alex Katz's work has been the subject of more than 200 solo exhibitions and nearly 500 group exhibitions worldwide. Artworks by Katz can be found in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Ikebana " Arranging Flowers " or " Making Flowers Alive " is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. The origin of Ikebana can be traced back to ancient Japanese custom of erecting Evergreen Trees and decorating them with flowers to invite the gods. Later, arrangements were used to adorn the alcove of a traditional Japanese home. Ikebana is counted as one of the three classical Japanese Arts of Refinement, along with Kodo for incense appreciation and Chado for the tea ceremony.
Ikebana International is a worldwide non-profit cultural and educational organization in Tokyo, Japan. Founded in 1956 with the dream of uniting the people of the world through their mutual love of nature and enjoyment of Ikebana. The motto of the association is " Friendship Through Flowers ", and any person accepting that objective is welcome to join as a member of Ikebana International.
