Circa 1900, these chairs were known as Official's Hat Chairs because (as the name implies) they resembled the hats worn by officials during the Ming and Qing dynasties. This lovely old chair features a serpentine crest rail and armrests along with a carved splat and apron. The decorative center panel showcases flora and fauna. The legs are square and joined by stretchers.

This antique Chinese chair shows wear commensurate with age. The lacquer is worn in places and the legs show scuffing, particularly near the bottom. There is a split in the wood across the seat but this doesn't impact usability... it's still very sturdy.

Measures 48" tall, 25" wide and 25" deep.

I love this chair for its display potential. Looks fab as a stand-alone piece but because the seat is flat and wide, it's also perfect as a table of sorts (plants, books, etc). See less
