Stunning antique ceramic vase in dark cobalt, mustard and brown glaze by Herman A. Kähler. Circa 1900-1920's. Signed at base; HAK Danmark. The pattern, consisting of floral leaves, creates an exiting three-dimensional experience together with the slightly elevated relief with soft rounded edges. The baluster shaped vase is in very good condition, minimal wear, and retains a beautiful gloss.
Herman August Kähler (1846-1917) was a renowned Danish ceramic designer and manufacturer. He ran the Kähler ceramic factory in Næstved, Denmark, which became famous for it's beautifully decorated pottery and tiles. Herman took over the factory with his brother Carl in 1872, and later developed the famous Kähler red glaze in collaboration with artist Vilhelm Klein. His work gained international recognition, especially at the Great Nordic Exhibition in Copenhagen (1888) and the Exposition Universelle in Paris (1889).
