The compressed ovoid form is hand-thrown and subtly asymmetrical, adding to its authenticity and appeal.
The decorative scheme includes a band of linked ruyi heads at the shoulder and a lower border of stylized lappets above the foot. The deep, slightly mottled cobalt pigment shows excellent tonal variation, characteristic of Qianlong-period kiln output. The neck is unglazed and shows a visible glaze skip, a common occurrence in 18th-century Qing production, adding to the piece’s integrity and character.
Once capped with a fitted lid (now missing), this small-scale jar would have been used for tea or spice storage. At 4.75" inches high, it's an excellent cabinet or shelf piece and a fine example of export porcelain with decorative and scholarly value.
