from the Tropical America series. This beautifully detailed reproduction print by John Gould captures the delicate elegance of the Pied Tail hummingbird. Presented in a silver and gold-toned frame and matted with a patterned silk border. John Gould (1804–1881) was the visionary behind 2,999 hand-colored lithographic plates of birds and animals. Elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1843, he oversaw a process that was both technically and artistically demanding. Due to their high cost, only a few hundred original prints were produced for wealthy collectors and institutions, making them rare today. This is a reproduction made within the last 25 years.
