A European double handle Art Nouveau bowl in silvery, highly-polished pewter with a pierced wheat sheaf stem and leaf motif from Orivit Metallwarenfabrik of Germany, circa 1900-1910. The antique oval bowl is oval shaped and in very good condition with some typical spots of oxidation, measuring 12.13 in. L x 9.5 in. W x 2.25 in. H, designed as perfectly sized fruit bowl or bread basket. Full company marks of AOG / Orivit / 3164 stamped on the base.
Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schmitz founded Orivit-Metallwarenfabrik near Cologne, Germany in 1894 and the firm quickly gained attention for their artistic metalware designs. Orivit won a Gold Medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1900 followed by two Grand Prix awards and a Gold Medal at the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair. The company was acquired by WMF (Wurttembergische Metalwaren Fabrik) in 1905 and remained in business until 1914.
